Just When Nigerians were praying for the end of the fuel Scarcity

The fuel scarcity in Nigeria has lingered for a while now and Nigerians were already praying it ends in order to end the long queues at filling stations, but the reverse is the case as technical faults have forced the Satellite depot to shut down. This may cause severe fuel shortage, particularly in Lagos.

The depot stopped working over the weekend, putting a halt on distribution efforts in the state. The Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Satellite Depot, confirms this.
It gets worse as Mr. Ayo also stated that the Apapa depot didn’t have any fuel either and that with both Satellite and Apapa being major depots that service the South West, things weren’t looking well.

In an interview with the News Agency Leadership, the IPMAN Chairman said: “I want to specifically tell you that throughout last week, the combined capacity of the two depots were in no way able to serve Lagos.”

“We (Marketers) the whole of last week were given between 6-8 trucks daily as against 102-105 trucks in the past.”

“If we maintain that tempo, we will not have this long queue in Lagos, but the truth about the matter is that there is no product, and we are at the moment rationing what we have.”

He said that the government entered into an MOU with the marketers in which they (Marketers) were assured of product availability by the first week in May, so if the products arrive we will sell but for now there is nothing we can do.

This is coming on the heels of  the statement by the Minister of State for Petroleum via the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) the Port Harcourt Refining Company and the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company are now producing petrol daily.
