Police Averts Fight In Abuja
According to eyewitnesses, as reported by Sahara Reporters, the conflict began when union members disagreed over the election of new leaders, some of the members wanted the old leader to remain while others supported the new one.
The quick arrival of Nigerian troops helped avert a potential bloody clash over a change of leadership by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) operating at Lugbe bus station, Abuja yesterday.
The atmosphere at the bus station located by the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, was war-like as reported by correspondence of the Sahara Reporters while there.
In the fire-heat of the atmospheres, angry cab drivers, touts and street urchins freely deployed dangerous weapons like bows, arrows, and cutlasses to settle scores in the battle of supremacy, leading to general commotion in the area as commuters scampered for safety.
Intervention of the Nigerian Police brought order back to the area.
