Manchester United Football Club is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, that competes in the Premier League, the top flight of English football. Nicknamed "the Red Devils", the club was founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to its current stadium, Old Trafford, in 1910.
Manchester United have won a record 20 league titles, a joint-record 12 FA Cups, four League Cups and a record 20 FA Community Shields. The club has also won three European Cups, one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one Intercontinental Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup. In 1998–99, the club became the first in the history of English football to achieve the treble of the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United are on course to become the first Premier League club to earn £1 billion in prize money.
United have earned £870.2 million in Premier League prize money since the 1992-93 campaign and are set to surpass the £1bn mark if they finish in the top eight next season.
This season, Arsenal received £100.9m in Premier League payments, while champions Leicester City were given £93.2m.
Despite finishing bottom of the league, Aston Villa still received £66m.
As from next season, clubs will be guaranteed at least £100m in prize money, regardless of where they finish in the table.
In the last 24 years, the Premier League has paid out £14.8bn in prize money, with £1.64bn split between clubs this term.
