Wizkid And Fela – Should That Kind Of Comparison Be Made?

Wizkid And Fela – Should That Kind Of Comparison Be Made?

Fela Kuti, also known as Fela Anikulapo Kuti or simply Fela, who died August 2, 1997, was a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist, musician, composer, pioneer of the Afrobeat music genre, human rights activist, and political maverick.

For those that were born in the 1980’s or earlier and listened to Fela or even listen now, would not want to overstate the impact and importance of Fela’s music to the global village.

He is also known as the inventor of Afro-beat, an unrepentant sexist and of course a megalomaniac.

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known as Wizkid, is a Nigerian recording artist, songwriter and performer. He started his musical career at age 11, releasing a collaborative album with Glorious Five entitled Lil Prinz.

Wizkid has attracted fans even from beyond the shores of Nigeria and also has made some impact on the entertainment industry.

In the light of how far the two have impacted the entertainment industry, fans have come up to share their views, making comparisons between the two artistes.

But one wonders... in consideration of the fact that the two of them are from separate worlds (have produced different kinds of songs and send different messages), if the two can actually be compared.

Here are some views by fans on twitter:
