Cultists Battle In Otukpo, Seat Of Idoma Land Benue State

 

18 persons have been reportedly killed in two days of bloody battle between rival cult groups in Otukpo Benue State.
Nigerian Tribune reported that the crisis started on Saturday behind Saint Francis College (Ogwonuigbahapa), after a fierce struggle between two cult groups, which spread to other area of the town like;  Oiji Street, Sabon-Gari and Ojira.
An eye witness was reported to have said, “it all started like a joke, when young men were initially throwing fireworks at one another, but within a short time, they pulled out guns and it became uncontrollable.
“For two days, young men residing around Saint Francis College (Ogwonuigbahapa), Oiji street, Sabon-Gari and Ojira engaged each other in a battle to control the town.”
The Secretary General of the Opiatoha K’Idoma, an umbrella body of Idoma sons and daughters, Chief Adoka Adaji, condemned the unpleasant action of the boys involved and the killings that followed, he urged security agencies to check for further rise of the crisis.
When contacted, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Moses Yamu, confirmed that three boys died, another three had gun wounds, while eight others were arrested and four locally made pistols where recovered.
